Filip Vest (they/them, b. 1995) explores themes of identity, performativity, and labour through performances, installations, and film. Vest's works negotiate the social scripts and structures we take for granted in order to examine whether other possible narratives and ways of being in the world might exist.
Vest's works are populated by small and large entities that affect one another: climate crises and relationship crises, roleplay, apocalypse karaoke, and re-enacted kisses. A bird falling in love with a statue. A frog having a breakdown in the middle of a striptease. Through mobile phones, walls, and windows, the characters communicate and miscommunicate across species and time as they attempt to make themselves legible to one another and to the world.
Filip Vest graduated from the Malmö Art Academy in 2021 and has exhibited works at institutions including Copenhagen Contemporary (2026), Moderna Museet Stockholm (2025), SMK (2025), Charlottenborg (2025), Moderna Museet Malmø (2024), MMCA Seoul (2024), Arken (2023), the Museum of Modern Art Zagreb (2022), Tallinn Art Hall (2019), Den Frie Udstillingsbygning (2019) and in connection with Manifesta 13 and the Gwangju Biennale in 2025. Their works are in the collection of Moderna Museet Stockholm.
